Mama Cass Elliot은 The Mamas & The Papas의 멤버로 더 유명하다. 우리에겐 California Dreaming을 부른 그룹의 여성 보컬이었다고 하면 더 잘 이해할 수 있을 것이다.
Mama Cass, Cass Elliot 등으로도 불린다. 1968년 그룹이 해체되고 나서 따로 솔로로 활동을 했었다. 그녀는 32살의 젊은 나이로 런던 공연 중에 심장마비로 사망했다.
우리나라 사람들에겐 'Dream a little dream'이란 노래로 알려져 있는데, 목소리만 들어보면, '아! 저 노래 부른 가수가 이 사람이야?' 하고 놀랄 것이다. 그렇게 우리에게 알려진 얼굴은 아니다.
그리고 그녀의 히트곡 중의 한곡이 드라마 로스트에서 아주 인상 깊게 나왔다. 시즌2의 첫 에피소드의 제일 처음에 나온다. 그 노래가 바로 'Make your own kind of music'이란 노래다.
